Preschool Picks
The program is geared towards children in preschool or ages 3-5. Students will not only have the opportunity to engage with newer picture books but also connect with the local library.
Picture Book Children’s Choice Awards
The program is geared towards students in grades kindergarten-second grade. The basic concept is to introduce and engage students with quality literature through flexible outreach options.
Picture Book Children’s Choice Awards Extension Program
The program is geared towards students in second and third grades; however, the chosen titles are scalable for younger and older children in a library setting. The basic concept is to introduce and engage students with recently published nonfiction or STEM- related titles through elementary school partnerships and special library programming, as well as collaborate with community partners.
Children’s Choice Awards
The county-wide, collaborative program encourages students in grades 3-6 to read popular books, vote for their favorites, and participate in a special literacy event each spring. It is a partnership between the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and the Allegheny County Library Association.
Information Literacy
The American Library Association defines information literacy as a set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.
Student Library Cards
The Allegheny County Library Association and county libraries have helped nearly 20 school districts offer cards to all students, allowing free access to all libraries across Allegheny County, including the eLibrary.
